Dear Ina,
Dear Ina, You know I adore you. Why else would I take on this insane project and preach the Contessa gospel to everyone I know? Sure, there have been a few bumpy stretches along the path, but I’ve reconciled those … Continue reading →
East Hamptons Clam Chowder
I made a half-batch of this (Barefoot Contessa Family Style), which was plenty for dinner plus leftovers. It was delicious. I love this style of clam chowder, but this recipe was especially good with plenty of potatoes and carrots.
Brisket with Carrots and Onions
Continuing with our Jewish theme from yesterday, I made this brisket (Barefoot Contessa Parties!). I don’t know why or how beef brisket became associated with Jewish holidays, but I can see why the tradition continued. Based on my previous disappointments … Continue reading →

Prosciutto-Roasted Bass with Autumn Vegetables
This recipe (Barefoot Contessa Back to Basics) is another in the series of recipes I tried out on my parents while my husband was out of town. Because the recipe gives some discretion in the type of fish used, I … Continue reading →

Roast Capon
I’d never cooked capon before using this recipe (Barefoot Contessa at Home, p. 102), and I figured it couldn’t be all that different from a roast chicken. After all, a capon is merely a rooster which is… no longer a … Continue reading →
Roasted Parsnips & Carrots
If you’ve never eaten parsnips before, you might think of them as the pale little sister of the carrot. Since I’m the pale little sister in my family, I guess I’m the parsnip. As it turns out, the parsnip isn’t … Continue reading →

Roasted Carrots
There’s an ongoing debate in our house about the best carrot recipe. (What? We don’t have cable.) I like them roasted. My husband likes them glazed with honey and orange zest. The toddler likes them (or at least tolerates them) … Continue reading →

Sweet and Crunchy
Orange Honey Glazed Carrots (Barefoot Contessa at Home, p. 133) taste like the cooked carrots you know, but better. They are still slightly crunchy, and the orange and honey bring out the natural sweetness in the carrots. This is probably … Continue reading →
