I’m not saying that Ina and her staff were high when they developed this recipe, but it does kind of look like dog food, even in the professionally airbrushed photo in the cookbook, and the ingredient list reads like a preschooler’s grocery list. The recipe is on the last page of Make it Ahead, and so it seems highly suspicious, like they threw it in just to make it an even hundred recipes. “Aw, what the hell, lesh go for a hunnerd. Crack open another bottle of Very Good Shhhhaauternesh.” I mean, really? Sliced almonds? It’s like they had a challenge to use up all of the leftover ingredients in the Practically Perfect Pantry, and everybody lost.
As much as I would have loved another recipe that used overripe bananas, this won’t be it. Oh well. They can’t all be winners. If you still want to make it after this resounding endorsement, factor in some extra baking time, unless you like salmonella with your ingredient parade.
